Weekend Recap

I made it through the weekend without having to break the big news! It was surprising to both of us, but when you have so many people drinking around you, no one even noticed (or no one said a word) when I didn't have a single drink!

The weekend was fun...it was nice to see everyone, but I was exhausted by Saturday night, so I didn't make it out to the bars. It was probably a good thing anyway.

We went to brunch on Sunday and then drove home, only to spend the rest of Sunday afternoon on the couch. I took a nap and we caught up on some TV shows. It was perfect!

Ryan is out of town this week in LA and I'm gearing up to spend my entire weekend doing Junior League stuff. I just hope I don't feel awful the entire time!

7 Weeks

Baby Holt is now the size of a blueberry! Time seems to be going slowly, but flying at the same time. Our little embryo will be a fetus in 2 short weeks!

"Baby's brain -- both hemispheres! -- is growing fast, generating about 100 new cells every minute. Arms and legs are emerging as joints start to form, and a permanent set of kidneys (baby's third!) is now in place."

We told Ryan's parents last night. It was supposed to be a total surprise, but it was a little obvious when I wasn't feeling well at dinner. Of course, they are thrilled! I also called my brother, Jessica and Aunt Susan to share the news last night. Once Ryan tells Reggie at lunch today, all of our close family members will know our exciting news. It's really great to finally share it with them!

I'm still feeling awful. Early mornings and evenings are the worst for me. I am constantly nauseated and just exhausted.

6weeks, 5 days Updates

We told my parents last night that they will be grandparents again next spring! Since my Mom is staying with us during the week, we told her in person and told my Dad to check out my other blog, which linked him to this one. How 2008 of us!

Morning sickness has come on strong since last weekend and I have not gone more than a few hours without feeling nauseous. It's all for a good cause, but I will be happy once this stage is over!

An update to my Paige maternity jeans that I was bidding on Ebay. I didn't get the original pair, but I did win an auction for another pair (these are already pre-hemmed for flats, keeping the original hems of course!). Perfect! I just hope they fit!

We are planning to tell the in-laws tomorrow night and since this will be their first grandchild, it's going to be a sight to see their reactions! We were planning to wait to tell our families until after the first appointment, but we will be tailgating with some great friends this weekend and my excuses for not drinking alcohol will not work. It's kind of relieving to let the secret out! :)

Shhh Mom and Dad...it's a secret!

You're going to be grandparents again...Baby Holt is due May 14. :)

19 September 2008

6 weeks, 1 day

At 6 weeks, the baby is the size of a sweetpea.

"Growing like crazy, baby is starting to sprout eyes, ears, nose, cheeks and chin. Those little hands and feet- still webbed like paddles- might wiggle by week's end, the heart is beating (almost twice as fast as yours!), and blood is starting to circulate."

Overall, I'm still experiencing the same symptoms. Tiredness, bloating, hunger, but now I'm adding in more nausea. I have spent my entire Friday night on the couch because I'm exhausted and my tummy feels like it's doing flip flops. I'm not one to get sick often, so it's going to be a long 6 weeks if this sticks around through the rest of the first trimester.

I recently made some pregnancy-related purchases. I bought Belly Laughs, the Jenny McCarthy pregnancy book that I am really looking forward to reading. I also bought Baby Bargains, a book that is recommended for purchasing all of the baby-related needs. I also bought two Bella Bands, one in black and one in white. The way this bloat is going, I may need them sooner rather than later.

The most exciting purchase, though...I'm currently bidding on some Paige Premium Denim pregnancy jeans on eBay. I know it will be a while before I need them, but the price was right! If I don't win this auction, I still have plenty of time.

11 September 2008

5 weeks

I am officially out of Month 1 and down 2 pounds since I first found out. Baby Holt is the size of an appleseed!

"Your embryo (looking kind of like a tadpole) is starting to form major organs (heart, kidney, liver, stomach) and systems (nervous, circulatory, digestive). Baby's presence in your uterus triggers production of hCG (the hormone detected by pregnancy tests)... which triggers production of other hormones like estrogen and progesterone... which trigger all those great symptoms you've probably been noticing!"

My symptoms are still the same...tired, light cramping, more hunger than usual and waves of nausea. I have read that full-on morning sickness doesn't usually kick in until Week 6. I suppose I should thank my lucky stars for now! My mom said that she was sick almost her entire pregnancies with both me and my brother. Is that what's in store for me?

My belly at 5 weeks, all bloat!

30.5

One of my goals of this year was to make turning 30 memorable. I am officially 30 and a half, so to recap the first half of my new decade:

1. We threw a fabulous Indy 500 party that our friends are still talking about

2. We spent some relaxing weekends at the lake

3. We partied with our great friends in Chicago a few times

4. We completed some great home improvement projects, including our fence, granite countertops, and a new backsplash

5. We both started new, better jobs

6. We went to the Indy 500 and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard

7. We had a picnic in our neighborhood park

8. We booked our 5th anniversary vacation to Mexico!

9. I celebrated our first nephew's first birthday in Texas

10. I joined the Junior League of Indianapolis

09 September 2008

4 weeks, 5 days

According to TheBump.com, Baby Holt is currently the size of a poppyseed. Today, I am 4 weeks and 5 days pregnant. It's so weird to write that word in reference to myself. I do have some time to get used to it!

"In week 4, now safe in your womb, the ball of cells (blastocyst) splits in two, becoming the embryo and the placenta. The amniotic sac and fluid are forming around baby, and will act as a cushion for the next eight months."

I went to Texas last weekend for Jack's birthday. It took all of my strength not to break the big news to my family since they were all in one place! Except that Ryan didn't make the trip with me. It wouldn't be fair of me to share the news without him. One thing from the weekend was that both of my parents asked when we were having a baby. I played it off like I always have and my Mom commented to me that she thought I would be ready by now. Little did she know! :)

I'm feeling good overall, not as tired as last week, but still not full of energy. I have been experiencing a number of different things that I now know are pregnancy symptoms. Cramps, waves of nausea, lower back pain and headaches.

I started taking my prescription prenatal vitamins last Friday and each day, they made me feel sick to my stomach. So, I wisened up last night and took it right before bed. A much better decision!

Let the Journey Begin!

On Tuesday, September 2, we found out that we were having a baby! After having one test come back positive, I drove to the grocery to buy a digital test just to be sure. The digital test came back positive much quicker than I anticipated.

I had to wait about an hour until Ryan got home and I could share the news. I had him come upstairs to look at the tests sitting on the bathroom counter. I can say that our reactions were definitely not what I had expected. I thought I would be totally emotional and I thought the Husband would be completely freaked out. Well, neither happened. We were both just a little unemotional. Not that we're not excited, but it's just going to take some time for it to become real for both of us.

As for symptoms, I really have nothing major other than being exhausted and a little bloated. No nausea yet.

According to the online calculators, Baby Holt's due date is May 14, 2008. That makes me exactly 4 weeks pregnant today. My first appointment is October 7.

Let the journey begin!
