Frugal Fashionista

I stumbled across this blog, Frugal Fashionista while perusing the blog of a fellow Nestie, brynalexandra. It's amazing...and totally for me! I have been so focused on our house lately that I have hardly bought any clothing for myself, but this is great! I can totally find these things and for amazing prices. Thanks Frugal Fashionista and thanks bryn!

Ebay, Craigslist or Half.com it!

One of my New Year's Resolutions is organization. As a result of the organizing so far, we've donated three boxes of stuff to Goodwill, I listed a broken chest freezer on Craigslist that someone came and took away for free, and I've sold six random items on Ebay and a book on Half.com...to the tune of $77! Not bad for a bunch of stuff sitting around my house with no purpose!

I have more items to list on all three sites and I cannot tell you the thrill I get from knowing that people are "watching" my Ebay items or the bidding frenzy that has ensued in the final minutes of my auctions! It's addicting!

A little bathroom reno

Our next house project is a small renovation/redecoration of our master bathroom. The space is large, but builder beige with stripper lights, a huge boring frameless mirror and cheap finishes. Our bathroom currently:

Our short-term plan is to remove the large mirror and replace it with two separate and fabulous mirrors. I received one as a Christmas gift and we had to hunt the second one down the day after Christmas. Luckily, we found it at the second store we visited and for 1/4 of the original price! It's a good thing, too, because the mirror was on clearance and Lowe's isn't carrying it anymore. Won't they just look beautiful hanging side by side?

I just love how the mirrors reflect the light in real life. The idea for these mirrors came from this beautiful bathroom on HGTV's Rate My Space:

Now, on to the faucet and lighting ideas. We have already had the electrical estimate done for splitting our single stripper light into two separate fixtures over each sink. I'm thinking of these fixtures for above each sink, from Bellacor:

These are the faucets that Ryan liked...he picked a beautiful faucet! It's from Price Pfister, their Catalina 4" centerset faucet in chrome. The best part is that we found it on Ebay for an unbelievable price:

Last items on the list: a paint color (Sherwin Williams' Down Home), and new towel hardware. It's not too much to ask, is it?

Off and Running...Again

So, I am an advisor for my sorority and each year the chapter has to put on a Shamrock project. The Shamrock Project can be anything, but it must take place in the spring and all proceeds benefit Prevent Child Abuse America.

The KD chapter at Indiana University-Bloomington is doing a 5k Run/Walk for their Shamrock project this year. Since I'm an advisor, I figured I would not only support the girls, but also participate. As a result, I'm now training for a 5k run that is 6 weeks from tomorrow.

I haven't been running at all since a few years ago, but I'm back on track. Tonight is my third run and I've made myself a schedule that I must stick to if I'm going to finish this race. If you're wondering how I'm going to get in shape for a 5k run in just 7 weeks, I'm using the Couch to 5k Program. I've used it before and it's super easy to follow. Wish me luck!

My Obsession: decorating our house!

So, I am obsessed with all things decorating. It is becoming annoying to my dear sweet Ryan as he cannot fathom why I want to change every single aspect of our fantastic house. It's not that I want to change it all, it's just that I want to make every square inch of it better!

We moved into a builder-basic hell. White walls, cream trim, brass light fixtures and doorknobs, very basic faucets and bathroom hardware. Well, needless to say, we knew that it would all have to be changed at some point! Paint on the walls, new light fixtures, new interior hardware, everything.

One of the biggest changes in my personal opinion were the new door levers in oil-rubbed bronze, purchased on Ebay for what I consider a steal! Aren't they beautiful? They make our doors just pop! Now, if I can only get the levers for the rest of our upstairs and basement...

My New Blog!

I'm new to this blogging stuff and it may take me a while to figure it all out, but here goes!

Mostly, this space is about me and everything I love...my husband, the Indiana Hoosiers, traveling and decorating my house.

Enjoy!
